Subject: A Lifestyle of Thanksgiving
The only real fall of man is his noneucharistic life in a noneucharistic world." That was the fall! Non-eucharisteo, ingratitude, was the fall — humanity's discontent with all that God freely gives. That is what has scraped me raw: ungratefulness.
This too has scraped me raw, ungratefulness.
Here is what I should have been thankful for instead of complaining:
Our house, which provides a refuge and shelter for 8 steady and as many as 12
Our cars, which have been able to take us to and from in some coordinated fashion time after time
Our children, who have helped us see our own flaws and selfishness, learn how to see God, taught us to pray and provided heaps of memories
Our parents, whose best was given in love and made us into the people we are and given us the hope and desire to become the people we were meant to be
Our God, who has never allowed us to settle for comfort when Paradise awaits, who daily loads us with blessings often unnoticed for years, who hears and answers prayers
Our God, who has saved us time and time from peril, danger, snares, and death and whose sacrifice has saved us eternally
Yes, ungrateful has been a mark of my life. I have failed so often to give thanks for the small victories and dare I ponder how many larger victories were delayed by such a poor attitude.
