Welcome to Friday 3.xx.16?

Then he handed Him over to them to be crucified.

Welcome to Friday!

Wow, between two thieves the King of Kings and Lord of Lords took to the cross to take our place!  Welcome to Good Friday!  How are you doing?  How have you been and what have you been up to this week?  What kind of week have you had this week, exciting, anxious, fulfilling, fun, busy, purposeful, or other?  Did you have time, energy and opportunity to take part in any of the Holy Week celebrations, meditations, and scripture readings this week?  How is your Friday going so far?  I hope that things are going very well for you today.

I am doing well.  I have to admit I am still recovering from our weekend trip down to Alabama to visit my granddaddy.  It was our first ever trip to Alabama with the entire crew.  All eight (8) of us packed up and made the trip down for a surprise and short visit to check on granddaddy and to also spend some time with other family.  As I told daddy, we went to "see whoever was willing to be seen."  The travel was supposed to be about 6.5 hours, and we weren't too far off that time going down.  The ride was mostly good. We learned that Ava and Emma aren't the best long distance riders, and definitely not in a car beside each other.  I got tickled that Ava woke Emma up b/c Emma's head was on her seat.  Flash back!  The tickled laughter didn't last long as they both seemed to kick it up a gear over headphones, broken headphones, and what movie to watch in the car.  All that aside it was still okay until our last stop at a McDonald's.  Not sure what happened, but Emma was over the top for the remainder of the ride.  She only stopped her antics when Momma called and was on speaker phone.  Then she pretended to be a quiet saint.

We had a good time dropping in to see family once we arrived.  We had a great time talking with my cousins, laughing with my Uncle's grandson, seeing that granddaddy was doing okay and hearing some funny wisdom from my Uncle.  One piece of wisdom was, "You can't please everyone, so stop trying."  Then pointing to a painting on the wall he says, "What did that man do to anyone?  Nothing!  And they hung him on a cross.  (He was pointing to a picture of the crucifixion).  Your not gonna make everybody like you!"

We also had a pretty good time at dinner, despite whatever hiccups took place in timing and location.  We intended to have a nice dinner with granddaddy and a few cousins, but it didn't quite come together like I imagined in my head.  Nevertheless, I know Sydney and Paige enjoyed themselves.  Ava and Emma did well, all things considered.  My funniest moment at dinner was the fact that Emma stopped eating her food, 3/4 of the way through, and started playing around.  She didn't notice that the check and boxes came, and the final bathroom run had taken place.  She continued to play up until Trish said let's go.  The look on her face, and the fast break to her spoon were comical.  "Wait," she said, "I eat my dinner."  She took a few chunks of cold macaroni and decided not to bother and just followed along out the door.

Our ride back included a seat adjustment, but not a lot of Emma and Ava improvement.  Plus, to me, we must have traveled through a time warp.  It took 6.5 to get to Alabama, but over 7.5 to get back home (according to my math).  We made a few missteps on the return trip like picking the wrong gas exit and forgetting to make sure everyone hit the bathroom.  Still, it was a fun trip and we made some memories, had some laughs, and enjoyed some time together.  I really enjoyed being able to chat with Trish during the time driving.  The girls were either sleep or occupied enough that we could actually hear each other for large portions of the trip.  I finally got the tutorial needed to understand the Lego movie as well.

Even with the slow recovery, the week has been blessed.  We had a great dinner on Monday and Thursday nights.  I made pizza on Thursday, and by made I mean ordered and picked up and made it appear in the house.  Emma didn't really like the pizza, but she loved the Italian sausage.  Cassarra had her first days on the new job (first job).  She was excited.  Gabbi starred in a major production on Thursday featuring surprises, posters, laughter and prom.  You'll have to ask her about her role and the pictures.  Paige and Sydney were up early all week enjoying the benefits of a new morning deal and various surprises.  Ava and Emma are also still in trip recovery mode.

We didn't get to attend Maundy Thursday service, but we have been able to share some family time with devotionals for Holy Week and Easter.  We are doing Resurrection Eggs as a crew, and we also took part in a fast.  We are looking forward to Easter, the remembering, recalling and excitement of knowing that we have been saved - "while we were sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8)."

The kids are on break and I'm looking forward to a few days off to enjoy some downtime with the girls before the last stretch run of the year.  Cassarra is counting down the days and the hours.  I think we are too, but in a very different way.

Well, I hope you are doing well and that you will have an absolutely powerful and passion filled Easter weekend.  May the God of grace, forgiveness, and resurrection glory be with you and bless you abundantly.  May the truth of "He is risen" bring you comfort, joy, encouragement, and the strength to face every today and be filled with hope for tomorrow.  Take care, be blessed and as always...

Welcome to Friday!

I am thankful for... His great sacrifice!

Welcome to Friday 3.11.16

Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered.  Proverbs 11.15 (ESV)

Welcome to Friday

Good morning!  Well, at least I hope it is still morning by the time I finish writing to you.  How are you doing?  How are things going with you and your family this week?  What have you been up to and how are things in your neck of the woods?  I am writing with the hope that you are doing well and that you have had an absolutely fantastic week with lots of joy, lots of gladness, lots of success, and most of all lots of love.

Welcome to Friday!  I am doing well.  I have had a very good week, all things considered.  It was a little rocky over the weekend with a few missteps in a driving lesson, a bit intense due to a few missteps with being over committed, but all in all a great week.  It was all in all a great week featuring fun, dancing, food, fellowship, basketball, daughter dates, driving issues, work, family, speaking at church, and the prayers of faithful friends.

Our weekend started with a Princess Ball with Paige and Ava at their school.  We all got dressed up and headed out to walk the red carpet.  Ava and Paige looked really nice in their dresses.  The ball started at 6:30.  Ava was so excited to go that she actually tried to get dressed at 4pm.  Once we did get there it was really nice.  The school laid out a red carpet from the steps into the lobby and then from the lobby to the photo boot area.  Ava and Paige seemed to enjoy it all, and Ava especially enjoyed Paige's friends.  Yep, everywhere they went it was Ava and Paige and Paige's crew.  Ava got separated once of twice, but in those instances she didn't mind because she had two cupcakes or two brownies to keep her company.  We had two dances together, but missed the third dance time because I was grabbing balloons for Ava and Paige and they wanted a red one.  Each time I got one of them a red balloon, the other one let one of their balloons fly back to the ceiling.  It was nearly an endless loop.  After the ball we turned ourselves into pumpkins with some late night snacks.

Saturday found us adding breakfast at IHOP.  We were all up early and made it downtown to join Momma, who had invited us out to breakfast.  I had a good time chatting with Momma and my two sisters, eating pancakes and laughing with the crew of kids (mine and theirs).  It was also a great time to just take a break and relax.  The only downside of the breakfast time was the fact that Emma ate my sausage and then left.  When she saw that I had sausage she came over and sat down beside me.  Once it was all gone, she was no longer sitting beside me.  She later returned to eat Ava's pancakes.  The funniest thing is, Emma never actually touched much of her own food.  I guess she thought everyone else had food that looked better.  That is my child. I always think Trish's food looks better than mine.   At least now I just order the same thing she does.  Maybe Emma will do the same soon.

After breakfast we had some funny driving moments.  I needed to go to the bank, and I got caught between missing my turn and not wanting to drive an extra block down the street.  So I thought, since the bank and drive through are closed I would just cut through the exit lanes for the tellers.  Surely, since it was closed it wouldn't be a big deal.  Not! When we got through the exit lanes I realized that there were people staring at us through the window, and the green lights were on.  The bank was actually open.  Cassarra and Gabbi laughed.  I told them it was not one of my best moments.

We spent the rest of the morning serving at Manna Station down at the church and watching the marathon runners conquer the steep hill leading up to our church.  We had a smaller crowd than expected Saturday, but things worked out well, especially since we didn't have a lot of help to serve.  And we ended our Saturday with the four oldest enjoying high school basketball championship games, fellowship and food.  I enjoyed the games, even if some of the teams I expected to win didn't actually win.  In fact, the one team I really thought would win got beaten down in the 2nd half, another team nearly snatched defeat from the jaws of victory, and then the last game I watched for the night turned out to be a thriller.  Gabbi & Cassarra enjoyed the games and their friends. I enjoyed it all and the food.  As did Paige and Sydney.  The trail to my back pocket was well worn by the time we left.

On Sunday I had joy serving in worship and having my coworker and Bible study partner visit with his family.  After church I took Emma on her daddy/daughter date.  She was excited and then Ava got excited and invited herself to tag along.  We went to a McDonald's and had ice cream and quite a time laughing, talking and playing with happy meal toys.

Afterwards I took Gabbi for a driving lesson.  Let's just say that I really could use a do-over on that one.  She didn't have the best teacher on Sunday and things should have been better.  I had more than one forgettable moment, and Gabbi has probably lost most of her desire to go on lessons with me.  That one was a misstep on my part.  The next lesson will go a lot better. I  made a deal with Gabbi on the lessons, every bad lesson earns a penalty payment.  She seems confident that this will be easy money for her.  I'm hoping it won't be,  the reward is pretty high.

I guess I was batting a bit over .500 two unforgettable experiences and two that I wish I could redo.  It was a busy weekend, and I think the busyness was too much at times.

Of course a great week got started on Monday.  It was kicked off with Sydney and her student led conference.  Sydney had prepared a script on her school performance and proceeded with leading us through her work.  She showed us her grades, reflections, and goals.  She even talked about her best success and a failure.  In true Sydney fashion the failure was more like a 'B' instead of an 'A'.  It was a well led conference, by a great conference presenter.

We blazed through the rest of the week, enjoying dinner moments and a late night teen trips on Tuesday.   We hit Walmart and Sonic as I tried to catch up and enjoy the time.  I did try to sprinkle in some father's wisdom moments and open up for growing teen's questions.

I surprised Sydney and Paige on Wednesday with a breakfast out.  They surprised me by being dressed and ready for school by 5:30, and by having their little sisters dressed and ready too.  Ava and Emma were too funny at breakfast. Especially Emma.   After we said grace,  Emma scoots up to her food and says,  "Okay, let's get it."  On top of that we all made it to school on time.

Thursday we managed to all have a blast taking photos for the church.  Ava and Emma stole the show.  And that was hard to do given all the beauty and talent in the room.  They had adorable photos, cheesy moments, lots of excitement and energy.  The funnest moment was when the pose of the two (Emma and Ava) with their arms around each other, led to a squeezing, pulling and bear hugging match.  Trish and I watched in slow motion as the two slipped off their stools, arms still locked, falling towards the floor.  No one was hurt, thankfully.  Throughout, Emma acted like she was just a natural model.  And Ava was not to be out done.  Ava got her photos done in one sitting, one shot - perfect, done!  The photos of Trish and the girls are all simply amazing.

Today is looking full of promise and I know that God is in the midst of it all.  I hope you are doing well.  I hope you had a great week and that your weekend will be strong and filled with great things.  Have a fabulous Friday and wonderful weekend.

Welcome to Friday 3.4.16

My times are in your hands.  Psalm 31:15
Welcome to Friday!
Cry for help and you'll find it's grace and more grace.  The moment He hears, He will answer. ~ Isaiah 30:19 (MSG)

Well it looks like the week has marched on its steady course and we have arrived once again at a desirable destination, Friday!  I started my morning at 3am with Ava, trying to get her back to sleep.  After 20 minutes, I managed to get her and her cough under control and she went back to bed.  I debated whether to stay up and workout or try to catch a little more sleep.  I promised myself that if I laid down I would only sleep until the first alarm and first snooze.  Well, I kept my promise, sort of.  I laid down and instead of hitting snooze I disabled the whole alarm.  When I finally got up I had overslept by an hour.

How about you.  How did your day start?  How are you doing?  How is everything going with you this week, and today.  What were you up to and what things did you celebrate this week?  Did you hit all your goals and take care of the most important things you needed to take care of throughout the week?

If you had a tough start, or a tough week maybe we can both take some comfort in today's devotional reading from Max Lucado:

Problems [issues, trials, troubles, failures and setbacks] inhabit our world,
but they don't control it!
Grace [God's inexhaustible grace] does.

Overall, despite the 3am start to Friday, I had a great week.  We celebrated Trish's birthday over the course of the weekend.  I had a blast watching the girls try to spoil their mom with gifts, appreciation and helpfulness.  The older girls watched the whole crew for me to take Trish out a couple of times.  And Trish and I had Kiki's Chicken and Waffles on Friday and enjoyed the great food, new location, live music and atmosphere.  The food and mood were great, but as always the company is queen.  I love time with Trish.

Cassarra received an award from the Urban League for her accomplishments in high school.  She was a part of a three hour awards ceremony that they haven't stopped talking about yet.  Afterwards, Cassarra and I had a nice early dinner together.  We chatted about her college plans, her major and some of the cool things she was up to.  Then she volunteered to help watch the girls so I could surprise Trish with a 2nd date night of the weekend.

We also celebrated the birthday weekend with dinner on Sunday, and the little people were mostly well behaved.  Emma had a few extra bathroom trips, and Ava didn't really eat all of her dinner, but she behaved.  The birthday cake was from Sweet Temptations Bakery, and it was excellent.  The bakery makes one of Trish's favorite cakes.  The kids enjoyed it as well.  They probably enjoyed it too much because it seemed to disappear all too soon.

I was off on Monday and Emma made sure I enjoyed my day.  She treated me to watching her favorite shows, playing games and lots of "Daddy, daddy" conversations.  It was fun until she started getting tired.

All in all, everyone is doing well and we had a good week.  We are all looking forward to enjoying the weekend.  I hope that you are doing well and that things are going well with you and in your sphere of the world.  Have a great rest of the day and an absolutely fantastic weekend.  As always,
Welcome to Friday!
