The supernatural break in

The supernatural broke through the barrier of our natural world in a glorious celebration of our salvation.

Before we knew that God was coming for us, the angels knew. And they interrupted our earthly monotony with song: "Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests" (Luke 2:14). What was so wonderful to the angels that they could not restrain their adoration should be a wonder to us too. [At Christmas, and all year round], let us remember that the miracle of our salvation is truly that, a great and glorious miracle, one that sent angels into glorious raptures of praise. And let us pray that our God will interrupt our lives with the joy of this message, just as he did for those shepherds in the field.

Prayer

Lord God, you are the sovereign, majestic and transcendent ruler of all things, both visible and invisible, past and present. The angelic hosts of heaven serve you continually to accomplish your perfect will. Break into our lives, interrupt our routines, open our blinded eyes and stir our calloused hearts to reveal how amazing your plan truly is. I recognize that in this life I see so little and know only part. Yet the time is coming when I will see you face to face. The joy of my salvation is my strength. In your holy name I pray. Amen.

Merry Christmas 2015!

Merry Christmas!

Hope of all hopes, dream of our dreams, a child is born, sweet-breathed; a son is given to us: a living gift. And even now, with tiny features and dewy hair, He is great. The power of leadership, and the weight of authority, will rest on His shoulders. His name? His name we'll know in many ways— He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Dear Father everlasting, ever-present never-failing, Master of Wholeness, Prince of Peace.  Isaiah 9:6 (The VOICE)

Merry Christmas! I hope the joy of today is exceeding, great, and marvelous.  I hope that family, fellowship, and the love of Christ are among the greatest gifts you receive and experience today.  I hope you are able to eat, laugh, and enjoy this special day.  And as I was reminded, I pray that you too will remember that God loves us, and that's why we celebrate.

May the Christ child, "God who came to man, so that man could be reconciled to God", be born anew in your heart and make a today great day - and a very merry, blessed and holy Christmas holiday.

Merry Christmas!

And she gave birth to her Son, her Firstborn; and she wrapped Him in swaddling clothes and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room or place for them in the inn.  Luke 2:7 AMP

Love you, Cassius

Welcome to Friday - 12.18.15

For you bless the righteous, O Lord ; you cover him with favor as with a shield. Psalm 5:12 ESV

Welcome to Friday

Good morning! This is the day that our beautiful,  glorious and awesome God has made.  I am thrilled to have already experienced the warmth, joy and love of the Lord we serve and love. I can just tell that today is another great day for us to enjoy, savor, and fill with moments and memories.

Welcome to Friday! How are you doing?  How are things going with you and your loved ones this week? What have you been up to this week?  Were you able to finish what you set out to do?  What things, tasks, hobbies or activities brought you the most satisfaction this week?  What other things did you enjoy during your week?

I truly hope that you have had an excellent week.  I pray that you have been able to see, experience and be excited about the many blessings and abundant favor that surrounds us.  I hope and pray that you are feeling well, doing well and that your loved ones are doing well also.

We are doing very good this week.  The three older girls are finishing up exams before Christmas break begins.  This is better than past years where they would have break and then exams the next week.

Sydney's exams aren't as intense as the high school crew, but I am proud of the fact that she has decided to buckle down to make sure she is ready.  She also worked on some computer coding/programming this week.  If you have a few minutes she will gladly tell you about it.  I gave her the nickname "Chef" this week, because she got up early a couple of days to cook herself and her sisters breakfast.  She made pancake puppies.

Cassarra is doing well.  She helped work on some Christmas things, coloring sheets, and gift ideas in between studying for exams.  She, of course, has a lot of exams since she is taking so many AP classes.  I know that she will be fine since she has been a studying for weeks ahead.

And Gabbi has been really putting in more effort these last few weeks.  She has gotten organized and is preparing herself to excel.  She has exams this week, but unlike other schools, her school didn't completely abandon the Christmas party tradition.  Her school allowed them to enjoy  a Christmas party in the midst of exam week.  That was right up her alley.  Otherwise I think she is ready for a break in the school action.

Ava and Paige don't have exams, so there last few days have been markedly different from the other three.   Paige's class has been learning coding and game programming.   She wrote a great blog post about coding and how much fun you can have.  Then she actually began doing it.  Rumor has it the game player has made her own game.  I am sure she will make an awesome coder and game designer.  Ava is finally waking up without complaint. Ava gets dressed, goes downstairs and then back to sleep.  We still have not mastered the art of getting in and out the car in the drop off line, but we are making progress.

Emma has been a delight this week, bedtime aside.  I got to ride with her this week as Trish had to take me to work.  My car, or "Music" as Emma has named it, was in the shop for and ABS and brake repair.  The first morning Trish picked me up from Chick-fil-a, which is across the street from the repair shop.  Emma and I split some breakfast, and she entertained me throughout the ride.   On the way home that afternoon she asked if I had to go get "Music".  When I said, "Yeah, I have to get it from the shop," she responded, "no from Chick-fil-a."  Now the next morning that I needed a lift, I didn't get Chick-fil-a.   I also didn't get the same bubbly conversation. Instead Emma said half way through the ride that she was ready to go home.  Only after explaining that I needed a ride to work did she relent and start the great banter again.

Trish is doing well.  She does the amazing.   I am so blessed to have her keeping all of us together.  She worked on photo albums, getting ready for Christmas and a host of other things.  We had a good time going out this past weekend for date night.  We had a light dinner and managed to pick up a few Christmas gift idea items.  She planned an amazing set of sleepovers for the whole family downstairs, created a spectacular birthday event for Paige, helped all the girls during the week, and made time for each of them too.  Again, I've searched the house and I haven't found a cape, but it must be there.  Along with a halo, a crown, and a lot of other things worn by a superwoman/queen/angel/mom/virtuous wife/great person.

Well, I hope you have a great remainder of the day.  I am thankful for you and all of my many other blessings:

Welcome to Friday 12.11.15

[Love] bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.  Love never fails... ~ 1 Cor. 13:7,8a

Welcome to Friday!

The sun set last night was marvelous.  The colors were captivating and simply gorgeous.  As I crossed the lake on my ride home I was in awe of the gorgeous and multiple colors on display across the skies.  There were beautiful reds, oranges, blues, and purples all nestled up against pillowy silver gray clouds.  Below this heavenly tapestry was a flowing, almost rhythmic dance of silver blue waves promenading towards the shore and then back again.   It was a welcome reminder of the awesome Creator.

Welcome to Friday!  So, I wanted to check in on you and see what is new in your neck of the woods, find out just how have you been.  So, how are you doing?  How is your week going, or better yet, how has your week gone for you?  What have you been up to today and throughout the week?  I'd love it if you would share some of your blessings, and triumphs with me.  What moment made you the happiest this week?  What moment gave you the greatest sense of accomplishment and success?  Where were you feeling most blessed and why?

One of the blessings I enjoyed this week was a unique God wink.  For now real reason I was not off to good start one morning, I think Wednesday.  In the midst of the funk, and it was getting thick, my Pandora play list suddenly stopped mid-song and then shuffled to the song 10,000 Reasons by Matt Redman.  After the song ended I checked my email and it had two daily devotionals counting your blessings.  The first one was on counting your blessings, practicing gratitude and focusing on the greatness of God.  The second one was on finding reasons to be thankful, pleasant and joyful even in the storm (or the funk).  When I got to work I received a couple of text messages that just pushed the God wink to unbelievable status; one of encouragement, another a reminder of God's goodness, and a final one that reminded me that today is a great day.

My happiest moment was spending time with Trish at lunch on Thursday.   Normally I have Bible study on Thursday at lunch, but this week I asked my Bible study partner if I could be excused so I could surprise Trish with lunch.  However, I eventually had to tell Trish I was on my way home for fear that I would be the one who got the surprise!  Trish is notoriously hard to surprise.  We had lunch together with Emma, who was also excited to see me.  I wonder if Emma figured I was there to spend time with her, and Trish was tagging along.

One of the biggest accomplishments this week was sleeping on the floor without waking up stiff as a board.  We had a fun family sleep over night last night.  We all slept downstairs in the family room, watched some movies and engaged in some modest snacking.   Sleeping on the floor or any non-my-bed surface can be a challenge.  It was kind of neat.  Periodically I would be awakened by a rustling and clanging noise and each time I'd discover Emma bothering the Christmas tree and playing with a toy car.  Otherwise, most of the night was all peaceful, uneventful, and quiet.

In the spirit and wisdom of counting your blessings regardless of still or storm, my week's blessings are numerous.

  • Gabbi's dance performance at SHHS
    • Gabbi was in two dances and she did great
  • Enjoying Manna Station
    • We fed a great crowd, had a wonderful worship service led by our pastor
    • We had a few new volunteers
    • Lots of laughter in the sandwich room.  Ms. Joy declared that I was the bottleneck.  On an occasion or two she mentioned that I couldn't work and talk.  Guilty as charged.
  • Worship service and the blessing of using the chapel of Main Street UMC
  • Daddy/daughter Lunch w/ Paige
    • Paige is so calm, cool, and collected
    • The food was good, the company was excellent
  • Successful meetings at the office
    • Completing a difficult project update
    • Solving a critical issue today
  • Getting home and having a great dinner
  • Reading to Ava and Emma; "City Dog and Country Frog"
  • Going out for dessert
  • A Sonic run with Cassarra and Gabbi (late night)
  • Playing three games of basketball;
    • All of us remained lighthearted and had fun
    • I won two out of three games
  • Writing a devotional this week
  • Finishing a devotional from October
  • Lunch with Trish and Emma
  • Lunch at school with Paige
  • Laughing at things the girls say and their little mannerisms

Well, I hope you are doing well and that you are prepared to enjoy all the goodness and joy that God has for you.  I hope your weekend is fun, refreshing and blessed.  May God, who loves you deeply and dearly, bless you with power, strength, renewed hope, an abiding peace and the gentle reminder that He is Savior and He is Sovereign.  Have a great weekend and as always...

Welcome to Friday!

Love is irresistible, irrefutable, undeniable. Nothing rises to it. The dark side of our character has no weapon against it. It's our trump card. - Jim Daly

Merciful and mighty God, in still or storm you are Sovereign.
Bless my eyes to catch a glimpse of Your splendor,
my heart to feel the depth of Your love,
my mind to comprehend Your greatness,
and my mouth to pour forth praise, thanks and gratitude for Your goodness.
