No Ordinary Jam Session

So I am probably not going to get an invite to play Leno with the band, but so what. Tonight I had one better than playing in any band or show. You see, tonight I spent the last 30 minutes in a jam session with my two girls. It was a memory I hope to cherish for a longtime.

We had a good time laughing as I played or tried to play Silent Night. It was funny to hear them sharing and laughing each time the trumpet crackled between notes. I could see them both laugh and smile as veins popped out my neck and on my forehead. It tickled us all to no end that each one of them has more range and talent than I do. They weren't exactly shy about critiquing my rythym, tone and pitch.

After a while Cassarra joined in the fun by pretending to conduct. Gabby and I took turns trying to play Happy Birthday in preparation for Paige's birthday. I was impressed by how well they both could site read. We laughed about how Paige might react to our playing. We went down memory lane for a bit of joy around first birthdays.

It was cool to hear them talk about school and friends over the pauses between songs, measures and notes. The joy of having time with them and making this memory is special. This was no ordinary practice session and no ordinary jam session. No it was special!

I am thankful that God blessed us with a moment to jam and bond together. It is was a great joy for a rusty trumpet playing dad and two of his girls who are growing up so fast.

Don't Pinch Me

You know you have heard the popular phrase, "pinch me, I must be dreaming!"  Well don't pinch me.  If I'm dreaming I don't want to wake up right now.

Today was an awesome Thanksgiving.  My wife made the best sweet potato pies, corn bread stuffing and cake. My mother in-law, sister in-law and two nephews were over.  My mother in-law made macaroni and vegetables that we awesome, and she made a pasta salad.  We had  blast.  And yes, I ate to much and fell asleep for a nice long nap on the couch.

It was great to be able to sit down as a family and have a meal together, see the kids playing together and see my wife get to spend time with her family.  For me it was just good to take the pace of life down a notch, even if only for a few hours of today.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Gratitude

Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm not sure there is enough space or time to properly enumerate all of the blessings I have to be thankful for this year.  I can start off by saying I am so thankful for Christ.  I am thankful that he died for my sins and gives me the invitation to be one of his children.  I'm thankful that he continues to walk with me on this journey of ups and downs and through dark nights and stormy days.  I am thankful for his presence that lights up the nights and reminds me of his love always.

I can also give thanks for my wife and the love that she showers on me over and over and over again.  I am truly blessed that she believes in marriage and has so much patience as we continue to grow together.

I give thanks for my children, each of which have been a unique blessing.  From the first child, down to the last they have been amazing gifts from God.  They have their own unique personalities, challenges, and rewards.  It is a joy to see them grow up and to know that one day they will have children of their own.

I am thankful for my parents and grandparents, especially for living parents and a granddad who is still active in his eighties.

Other thanksgivings:

  • Family
  • Friends
  • Other Essentials

    • Clothing
    • Shelter
    • Work
  • Extras
    • Cars that work
