Welcome to Friday!
Good morning and welcome to Friday! How are you doing today? How are things going with you today! I hope you are off and running to a great start to this amazing day. I am praying that you are well and that the weather hasn't gotten to you the way it has gotten to so many others. What was the best part of your week? Which part of your week do you wish you could have done differently?
The best part of my week was spending time with the whole family around the dinner table last night. It was absolutely fun and amazing. The girls were talking about everything under the sun. We had conversations about school, social activities, Girls on the Run, choir practice, Christmas Concerts, Dance recitals, and field trips. We had conversations about honors and AP classes, basketball, our busy weekend, and the rest of the details from the week gone by.
Sydney explained why she needed "Organic Potting Soil" and I tried my best to contain myself. Cassarra pleaded that she would be over her cold in time for her weekend school events. Gabbi and others came to terms with the realization that they had a long Saturday ahead of them. Ava sat at the table trying to convince us, through moaning and crocodile tears, that she should get dessert without eating dinner. Trish was amazing, listening to everyone in turn and sharing her own weekly insights.
While we all exchanged conversations, Emma sat in her chair pre-occupied with her spoon, that she was now using as a make believe phone. For several moments she held it to her ear, talked (in gibberish - except for "Hello," "No" and "Yes"), and then put it down. This cycle repeated itself for several minutes and she got more and more animated and excited. She'd hold the spoon to her ears and mouth, talk loudly over our conversations and then pretend to hang up. After a while she put the spoon to her ear, said "Hello," and then passed it to Trish. When Trish pretended to play along by talking to the spoon, Emma shot her a look that was both precious and funny. We all saw Emma's face and began laughing. Emma looked as if she was in total disbelief that Trish was actually talking to a spoon. For a few seconds she just stared in amazement, and then we all burst out laughing. It was the best laugh of the day!
Laughter is just one of the many blessings of this week. A few of this great week's blessings include:
- staying warm and dry when it was cold and raining
- getting to work on time and getting off on time
- getting recommended for a bonus at work
- meeting with the COO and HR to discuss additional responsibilities and opportunities
- praying with friends and having them pray for me and my family
- winning all four games of basketball this week
- enjoying an Asiago bagel and great company with Trish on Wednesday morning
- avoiding a bad accident early Tuesday morning when the window suddenly fogged up and the glare blinded me
- I had to stick my head out the window to see :)
- family dinner on Thursday
- Worship training on Sunday where a ton of great ideas were shared
- peppermint white mocha and a coffee date with Trish on Sunday
- spending time chatting on our Friday date night
- still learning new and more beautiful things about my amazing bride
- my dead battery being under warranty and getting a new one free
- Trish being able to give me a jump and make sure I got on my way
- Trish following me all the way to the parts store and beyond to get a new battery
- spending Saturday with Alex and his family at a birthday party
- FaceTime with my niece Abby on her birthday
- I couldn't get our camera to work correctly
- Ava and Emma kept trying to hog the camera
- eating an authentic Philly cheese steak sub
- It was amazing in taste, texture, and quality
- It was so good that it was sad to see the last bite go
- watching highlights of my nephew Matthew playing at Penn, especially the slam dunk
- chatting with my other nieces and nephews via text
- realizing that I have a wonderful set of parents, siblings, family and friends
- watching Emma and her cousin Lia play and teeter totter around the play place like they were big kids
Well, I hope you have a wonderful list of blessings for your week. My week had a few bumps, it wasn't all smooth this week, but I am so thankful for these many moments where great things, good things, and even unexpected things took place. I'm glad my battery went dead in Columbia instead of on I-77 on the way to or from Charlotte. I'm glad that we all found time to laugh and enjoy time together. I'm thankful that the meeting with the COO was about a new opportunity to take on a greater role, and not about packing up or changing roles. I'm glad that the difficult moments were not overwhelming and that God is still in control.
Anyway, I hope you have a great day. Welcome to Friday! Enjoy yourself and have a great weekend. Sydney will be running a 5k on Saturday and I will be sure to let you know how she does. I think she is excited and I know that she will do her personal best. Take care and be sure to get plenty of rest and enjoy your loved ones.
Welcome to Friday!
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood,
but against the rulers, against the authorities,
against the cosmic powers over this present darkness,
against the spiritual forces of evil
in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12
With love (& in triumph),
Cassius
