Welcome to Friday 6.19.15

The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear?  The Lord is the strength of my life, of whom shall I be afraid?

Welcome to Friday!

Rejoice!  Dance!  Shout!  This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it (Psalm 118:24)!  Today is Friday and I am praying and believing in a day of great joy, hope, and victory.  I am praying and trusting that today will be filled with reasons to rejoice, moments of dancing and celebration, and shouts of joy and thanksgiving.  I know that at 5pm I will surely be shouting with joy as I make my way out of the office at the end of another great week!

So, with great joy, high hopes, and the confidence that God will do wonders I say to you, Welcome to Friday!   How are you doing today?  I mean, seriously, how are things going with you and your family?  How was your week?  Did you have a moment that took your breath away, sparked your imagination, gave you pause, or made you smile?  How did you handle the joys and challenges of this week?  Were you able to accomplish the things you set out to do and then some?

I had a very good week.  Actually, I had an excellent week!   In fact, the last two weeks were really good.  We spent part of this past weekend in the mountains enjoy an end of summer trip/retreat to TN.  The cabin was amazing, and the views were simply gorgeous.  We arrived at the cabin last week Thursday and Trish and I stayed until Saturday night.  The time in the cabin was great, the lazy mornings, the walks outside looking at the landscape (gorgeous tree lined slopes, various rock formations, gorgeous log cabins, and valleys), and the trip even included the excitement of wild life nearby.  I loved it!

Over the course of this week my joyful and grateful moments have included:
  • celebrating my mom's milestone birthday
  • safe travel to and from TN
  • watching Emma dancing in the backseat of the car
  • Laughing when Ava Claire thought I called her Larry, so we said she is now Ava "Don't call my Larry" Rhue
  • ice cream milkshakes on the ride home
  • cooking out on the grill in the mountains
  • great food at the cabin, especially the grilled Salmon
  • Meeting some really great people from Mississippi
    • tasting what the real cook from Mississippi cooked on the grill
    • listening to their stories about seeing and photographing a black bear near their cabin
  • making it home in time for Sunday worship service
  • laughter, lots of laughter over the weekend and week
  • walking through the mountains with Lauren and Felicia
    • Laughing when Felicia and I joked that the end of the road, and the narrowing trail were like a "Do not enter sign"
    • Trish laughing at me for going outside in the dark to see if I can see a "black bear"
  • A trip to Wonderworks and the different exhibits and activities there
  • Picking three gigantic zucchini fresh from the garden on Sunday afternoon
    • making zucchini bread together with fresh vegetables
    • Gabbi and I made homemade lasagna w/ zucchini and Italian sausage
  • Dinner with Trish and the girls on Sunday afternoon
  • A great time at Vacation Bible School (VBS) at our church, especially during the men's bible study on Tuesday
  • An awesome yearly doctor's appointment
    • Another year in remission
    • Only need to loose 6 pounds
  • New career opportunities at work and new opportunities outside of work
  • Meeting with old friends on Thursday that I haven't seen in a while
  • Enjoying a free lunch at Longhorn's
  • Getting report cards and the final grades for the girls
    • Sydney and Paige received all A's for the year
    • Cassarra and Gabbi did well, they could use a little more help in math
  • Enjoying a coffee run w/ Trish in the mountains before everyone else woke up (or so we thought)
  • Having my dad join us for this year's trip
  • A good follow up report on Paige's ankle
  • A good doctor's visit for Trish on her routine follow up

The girls are all doing well this week.  We all have been super excited and still floating around with the joy of the cabin trip.  Each day we remember something new that made us laugh, smile, or just be grateful.

Trish is doing well.  She has had a busy week with appointments for the girls, her own appointments, and juggling my appointments and work schedule in the middle of it all.  Again, she has to have a cape somewhere - I just haven't found it yet.

Well, I hope you enjoy your Friday and I hope that you will have a wonderful weekend.  I know that it has been hot outside this week for me, so I hope that you are managing with the heat in your area.  We had temperatures in the 100's and I felt every bit of the heat when I got in my truck at the end of the day.  Please stay cool and stay safe in this summer weather.  I will be praying that you will be covered, and protected as you make your way through the summer and the various weather patterns and challenges that come with it.

Welcome to Friday

Love is irresistible, irrefutable, undeniable. Nothing rises to it. The dark side of our character has no weapon against it. It's our trump card. - Jim Daly

God, you have been our comfort, strength, and hope.  You
are our endless source of abiding love and unfailing grace.
When we have needed it most, your love and tender mercy
have done for us more than we could have hoped or imagined.
God, I give you thanks for this day and I pray that today,
and throughout our days you will continue to be with us
to give us comfort, love, hope, joy, and an everlasting peace
in the midst of the moments of life.
